Jeffery Snyder, M.D.
Dr. Snyder is a native of Miami, Florida. He attended Auburn University and graduated in 1977. Dr. Snyder obtained his MD degree from University of South Alabama in Mobile and graduated in 1982. He then served a five year general surgery residency at University Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida which is now Shands Jacksonville. For the next year Dr. Snyder worked on an Indian Health Service reservation hospital in Shiprock, New Mexico. He went on to attended the University of Florida in Gainesville for a two year residency in cardiothoracic surgery which was completed in 1990. Dr. Snyder has obtained board certification in general surgery and thoracic surgery and has been in practice in Gainesville since 1990.
Dr. Snyder started the off pump heart surgery program at North Florida Regional Medical Center and recently, along with Dr. Proia, has started the total endoscopic atrial fibrillation ablation surgery at North Florida Regional Medical Center.
He has served as Chief of Surgery at North Florida Regional Medical Center and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the hospital. He is also recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.
When not working in Gainesville as a cardiac surgeon, Dr. Snyder likes to participate in mission trips to underserved countries where he performs general surgery for people who otherwise would not have access to surgery even for common diseases.
Richard Proia, M.D.
Dr. Proia joined the practice in 2005 immediately after completing his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and then went on to get his medical degree from Columbia University in New York in 1997. Following medical school, Dr. Proia completed his general surgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 2003 and then returned to New York City for his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. He completed his cardiac surgery training at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and his thoracic surgery training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Proia performs a wide range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures and has a special interest in mitral valve repair, surgery for atrial fibrillation, and minimally invasive lung surgery. He is board certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. He has also had an active role in leadership positions at North Florida Regional Medical Center, as he has recently served as Chief of Surgery and is slated to be the next Chief of Medical Staff.
Dr. Proia is married and has two sons, Alexander and James.
